Lately I’ve been working a bit with the folks at Wildlife Computers in Redmond, Washington. They’re looking for a full-time SDE to build a new web service, front to back, to analyze and share data from satellite tracking tags on marine animals. If you’re an SDE familiar with AWS or other web services, and you’re the type of person who enjoys watching Shark Week every year like I do – this could be a pretty awesome opportunity. Wildlife Computers has a unique Software Development Engineer opening, developing front and back-end web technologies to collect and analyze data from tracking devices on marine animals. You’ll develop a web service using cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services to wrangle tracking data, and allow researchers to analyze and share this data using a web framework of your choosing.   • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience/training.
  • 4+ years professional experience in software development.
  • Proficiency in at least one compiled programming language, such as Java or C++.
  • Proficiency with Computer Science fundamentals including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.


    • Experience with web service components such as Amazon EC2, DynamoDB, and S3.
    • Experience developing RESTful web services.
    • Experience with front-end MVC web frameworks such as Rails or Spring.
    • Ability to work independently, and communicate effectively with non-technical peers.
    • A proven track record of delivery from scoping to project launch.
    • Experience developing in a Linux environment.
    • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
